From 2018, a new system will be valid for the compensation of medicinal products on prescription. Additional compensation of medicinal products on prescription is intended to improve the availability of medicines for people with high costs for medicinal products. There will be additional compensation for medicines costs over 100 euros. It is planned to pay an additional compensation 50% if the annual costs of medicines is between 100‐300 euros and 90% if the annual costs of medicines is over 300 euros. Compensation will automatically be taken into account when buying medicines in a pharmacy.

For the implementation of the new system, an additional 3 million euros will be contributed for the compensation budget and the current recipe fees 1.27 and 3.19 euros will be changed to 2.5 euros.

Upon adoption of the draft Act, the new medicines compensation system will come into force from the 1st January 2018.
